I bought this router as a manufacturer's refurb (which likely means it was returned by a customer because it was unsuitable but the box was open) because we were planning to upgrade our broadband to fibre but before we discovered that our rural location meant that fibre would be no faster than ADSL - so I no longer need it. I only powered it on to install Advanced Tomato firmware, so it is essentially new - it is dust free and still has the original Netgear clear film protection stuck on. The Netgear firmware is available for download if you want to replace Advanced Tomato with original firmware. (Note: Please ensure that you know what you are doing if you want to do this - firmware replacements are always at your own risk.) This router is also capable of being modified for dual external antennae - giving you a far stronger wifi signal which will travel further and potentially reach rooms with walls that signals would not otherwise penetrate. Instructions for modifying the antennae can be found here. According to what I have read, this takes 10-15 minutes and they also suggest adding heat sinks to the chips whilst you have the case open. (Heat sinks with heat-conducting self-adhesive tape suitable for memory chips can be purchased cheaply on eBay.) An example eBay listing for antenna can be found for £5.90 inc. postage here. Note 1: Don't confuse this v2 version with the much more common WNR3500L v1 version of this router which looks extremely similar but has substantially less capability because of a smaller amount of main and flash memory. For a full comparison see Wikipedia. Note 2: This is not an ADSL Modem/Router. It can be used for ADSL broadband only if you have a separate broadband modem. Note 3: The picture of the Netgear Refurbished Product Limited Warranty (which will be included with the product) is provided as evidence that it is a Refurbished Product - the Warranty itself has lapsed. Note 4: There are some miniscule blemishes on the front panel. I am not sure whether these are blemishes on a protective film or not. However they do not affect the operation of the router in any way.
